James Day 29

7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

No man can tame the tongue and that is exactly why we need God to do it for us.  Check out this verse-

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”  Luke 6:45

So for our words to be right, our hearts have to be right.  The only one that can change our hearts is God.  We can’t change it on our own! (Sounds a lot like our “Character Under Construction” Series doesn’t it?)  “But the tongue can no man tame…”, so let God change your heart and your words.

Application:

What do your words reveal about your heart?  Are you allowing God to work on your heart?  This devotion can be a start, but if it’s just something you do on your “Christian checklist” it probably isn’t transforming you.  Don’t make this time of your day just a task to be accomplished.  Talk to God, and keep it relational.
