Devotion for Wednesday, December 7
Psalm 119:10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.12 Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes.
Like we talked about yesterday, the most imporant voice we need in our life on a daily basis is the voice of God. He has spoken through His Word. What an incredible gift this is! It’s not realistic to think that we’ll be able to look at the Bible every time that we have to make a decision. That is why it is so important to have God’s Word memorized so that we can do what He says and not do what He has forbidden for us.
What a great prayer the psalmist prays in verse 10. He says, “God please don’t let me wander from your commands.” He then follows up with the incredible verse- “I will hide your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Certainly “hiding …in my heart” includes not only knowing the words but also believing, accepting, doing and owning the words of God as well.
Application:
Today I was challenged again with hiding God’s Word in my heart. Have you ever memorized God’s Word? Why not try to memorize today’s verse?
