And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. (Luke 2:25-35)
What can we learn about Jesus from Simeon?
Give me two or three ideas.
What I can learn about Jesus from simeon is that jesus was the chosen one and a unque child and that he was destened to do great things. I also learned that jesus is the falling and rising again of many in israel.
Simeon is one faithful guy! He’s the complete opposite of what we discovered from king Herod. Simeon did what he was told and put God number one. It says in these verses that he was just and devout, right there shows his character. He was serious about God and how he was living for Him. When the holy ghost came upon him and said that he needs to see Jesus, not when he’s put to his death on the cross, but when he is born. Simeon was to go and tell Jesus, and Mary and Joseph what Jesus’ life is gonna be like. Simeon told Jesus that he’s seen the salvation which God has prepared for all people and that he is going to die, but rise again. Even though this might of sounded crazy at first, Simeon was faithful and did what he ought to do. So, Simeon lived with God as his #1 and that’s something we all need to do. I’ll be conpletley honest with you, I had to raise my hand last night to say that I needed to be placing God first. I can get so caught up in things that it’s easy to forget God.. Something I need to work on, and I’m sure some of you too. & secondly Simeon followed what he was told to do. He listened to the spirit even if it seemed far fetched, he listened! Simeon is a great example to all of us!
