(9) And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. (10) And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim. (11) And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
“And when the children cried unto the Lord”-
Isn’t it great that when you realize that you’ve done wrong, that God’s will is that we turn from what we are doing and turn to Him. He is always there for us, willing to fogive us.
“the LORD raised up a deliverer…”-
God, who created the world, and did many super-natural things in History to see that His will is done, at times chooses to use normal, everyday people to accomplish what He wants to accomplish. Isn’t that amazing? God chooses to use people! God chooses at times to use us if we are willing to be used and are faithful to do what He has already revealed to us to do.
“and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand…”-
I know what you are thinking. “I’m going to name my first child Chushanrishathaim!”. No? Ok….maybe not.
But you do know what is amazing? Even though God chose to use Othniel, He didn’t make Othniel do it all by himself. He gave him people to help him, and ultimately He caused Othniel to win!
If God calls you to do something for Him, He’ll also equip you to do it!
Life Step: Think about it…
Is there something that you need to confess to God? He wants to hear you cry out to Him and get things right. He loves you and wants to deliver you.
Is there a burden God has placed on your heart? Is there something you think He wants you to do? It’s so amazing that He chooses to use us! Thank Him today for using you!
If you are earnestly trying to serve the Lord, know that He will be the one that brings you success!

It’s so amazing that God can use anybody to do His work! The only thing we have to do is be willing. It’s kinda crazy how God created everything, sent His only Son to die on the cross to pay for our sins, and on top of that every time we sin He’s ready and waiting for us to come back to Him so He can forgive us! Many times in my relationships with others, I’d think that what I did was so bad that they’d never forgive me. But God isn’t like that, to Him it doesn’t matter how big or little the sin is, He’ll forgive us every time 🙂
I know right! What privilidge!
So, basically this is saying Israel finally realized they needed God and they cried out to Him to forgive them. Not too long ago I was struggling a little bit with a few things and I am really glad to have things back on track. I don’t think people would be too forgiving of me, but I am definitely glad God is. I don’t feel like God is pulling my heart in any direction to use me right now…but I would like to keep my heart open to whatever He wants. I’m kind of scared for what He has in store for me, but I really want to do something great. I want to be used for Him. And what is wrong with being scared? lol. Even Paul was. I just can’t let that stop me. And it is very exciting that God chooses to use us! He could just get the job done Himself, it would be a lot easier, but He chooses to let us in on the fun. I can not wait til the day comes when I fit into His plan. I like that you said “If you are earnestly trying to serve the Lord, know that He will be the one that brings you success!” It is so true! Without Him we are nothing. If we let our pride get in the way…we are settling for less. And we will shut Him out of our lives with the false belief that we don’t need Him anymore..that we can do everything our self. Then God, being the loving God He is, will let us have at it…leaving us in disappointment when we realize it was Him, not us, doing all the work and that we DO need Him. I need to apply this! I need to get it into my head that God is the one to give credit to and I am just His game piece. He makes the decisions and I play them out.
I think it’s pretty cool that you want to be used by God. Stay open to that…
And remember this Grace— It doesn’t have to be a someday kind of thing…it can happen now!
That’s just so amazing how God will use people to do his work that’s awesome! It’s also amazing how God will give us every thing we need to do his good work.
