Week 5 of Judges – Victory!

Judges 7:23-25 – Victory!

23 And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.

24 And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan.

25 And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

Israel is safe! God and Gideon has won the battle! Through this whole passage, one thing has been proven about God: He is faithful. Gideon doubted God, and yet God still gave him the victory. Now, all the Midianites are on the run! And guess what, now all those people who were not part of the 300 are now waiting for them to catch them on their way out! God saved his people and has delivered justice!

Ask yourself this. After the Israelites saw God save them, do you think they were afraid of the Midianites? NO WAY! In fact, this whole ordeal probably had the opposite effect; they were less afraid of the Midianites and more trusting in God. The reason is that when our God is big, our problems seem really small. However, the bigger we let our problems seem, the smaller our view of God is. An easy way to remember this is “Big God, Small Problems. Small God, Big Problems.” God is always bigger than our problems, so lets keep our mind, and our eyes, on Him.

Life Step: Think about it…

What does it mean when we say that “God is bigger than our problems”?

How has God ever taken care of a problem in your life?

What problems do you need to look at Him for instead of thinking about the problem?
