Week 7 of Judges – God’s Promise Comes True

Judges 9:55-57 – God’s Promise Comes True

55 And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.

56 Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:

57 And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.

Now Abimelech’s reign comes to an end. He destroys Shechem, and then a woman drops a stone on his head and he has his assistant finish him off, thus fulfilling Jotham’s prophecy from a couple of days ago. There’s a lesson in that for us. When God (who gave the prophecy to Jotham) says something will happen, it will! This is true back then and today as well! When God promises something, He means it.

For us, that means that we can depend on His Word. When He tells us that if we confess our sins He forgives them and makes us clean, He means it. When He tells us that He is still working in us to make us like His Son, He means it. When He tells us that He is always with us, He means it. We do not need to ask God for things like that, He already promised them! If God makes a promise, that is that. Our job is to know His promises and trust Him.

Life Step: Think about it…

What kind of promises does God give us that we can trust?

Do all of God’s promises happen when we want them to?

What happens when we do not trust God’s promises?

  1. God gives us many promises we can trust.some of them are like cody said he forgives us when we confess our sins,he is always there,he’s still working in us.there are many promises he has made.but they may not always happen when we want.for example, when he works on us to make us like his son.we may say God i want to be changed now but he may not do it right away.he has a plan for that and it takes time.when we don’t trust his promises, like not confessing our sins to make us clean, will kind of drift us away from him.like say you told a lie.then you didn’t ask forgiveness of that sin.then if you tell another lie and still don’t ask forgiveness.and the cycle keeps going on then you would think its ok to tell lies then you will be unclean and drift away from God.sorry i haven’t been on its been busy these past few weeks :/ but i’m gonna do better now thats taken care of! 🙂

God gives us alot of promises that we know we can trust and we know that he means it too when he says it, we can trust god when he promises that we will be saved if we accept him he doesn’t say maybe he says WILL be saved. Sometimes god promises doesn’t happen when you want them to happen sometimes it takes time for gods promises to come but it will come true. We should always trust in what god says always trust in his promises ad she we do t trust in his promises I bet that things go bad not like really bad but I’m not really sure what happens when dont trust in gods promises.
