And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers: If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

Explanation:
God communicates what He will do when they repent, return and respond to His Word. He would prosper their work. He would bless them materially. He would rejoice over them. He would bless them. What did they have to do? Obey the Lord from a heart that has been turned back toward Him.

Application:
The prosperity gospel, which is not a gospel at all and should be rejected, has been so proposed and proclaimed in our day that people who love God’s Word and understand it want to distance themselves from teaching that may sound like that false gospel. The prosperity gospel says that it is always God’s will that you be prosperous and healthy, and that if you are not it is because you don’t have enough faith. It states that healing is always God’s will. Prosperity is always God’s will. Health is always God’s will. Etc. Etc.
The truth is that we are sinners in need of a Savior. God’s ultimate plan for us is to be with Him forever in eternal glory. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, which is far better. That being said, God’s plan for us on this earth does not mean that everyone will be rich, healthy, and whole. Jesus said that those who live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. Jesus’ example himself was not one of material prosperity. He was an itenerant preacher with no home. He suffered, bled, and died on a cross as a criminal of the state of Rome.
I wrote the previous two paragraphs to be clear that I am not a prosperity preacher. This particular text though is speaking to Israel. God promised them prosperity if they would return. God promised prosperity if they would obey. If they would “hearken unto the voice of the Lord”, “keep his commandments”, and “turn unto the Lord thy God”, then He would make plenteous the “work of thine hand”.
This promise to the people of Israel can be taken as a proverb (not necessarily a promise) for us today. When we obey God and keep His commandments God blesses His people. Blessing certainly comes with obedience. This does not mean that everything will always be perfect for every individual that is obedient. That is not what is being promised here.
As a loving Father, God loves to bless His obedient children.

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
