Hebrews 11:3
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Pastor Ben’s Commentary:
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
No one saw the origin of life- the beginning of our planet. We know what happened because God revealed what happened to Moses who wrote it down in the first chapter of Genesis. According to this verse, creation came by the word of God. This is of course correlates with Genesis 1. In fact, go back and read the first chapter of the entire Bible. Over and over the Bible states, “And God said, …” and then creation came from the Word that he spoke.
Check out this video:
Application:
1. We serve an enormous God, who intelligently designed an incredible universe. This place isn’t about us, it’s about Him. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament (land)showeth His handiwork.” “The things that are seen (this physical earth) were not made of things which do appear” (natural processes, or people) but by the invisible, all powerful-Creator God.
2. Even though we are small in stature, God loves us and wants us to know Him. The incredible Designer-God who formed this planet, galaxy and universe loved you and I enough to send His Son to pay for our sins.
2. God’s Word is incredible. The Word of God created the world, and is available to us today. It is infintely valuable, and we should treat it that way.
Take a few minutes today to think about our Creator God, and to thank Him for what He has made.
Hey guys- Add this to today’s comments if you want…
I was thinking it would be cool to share prayer requests on here. If you have something that we can pray for you about on a particular day, make it a separate comment from your devotional comments so they’ll be easy to see and we can pray for you!

Wow!!!! ben 🙂
I know right!!!
Wow.. That video blows me away! I remember one of the first wednesdays I came to church, we watched this video. As i was watching it today, i felt this overcoming feeling of thankfulness. God loved us enough to send His son Jesus to come and die so He could save you and I from our sins.. Even though in reality we are beyond smaller than a crumb compared to this universe! How is that even possible?! It blows my mind!! Genesis 1 is a chapter of the bible I am very familiar with and one i have read many times! In V.3 of that chapter it says “And God said, let there be light: and there was light.” He literally spoke words and the universe was created!!! Thats why I feel so blessed that we have the bible! I have the creator of the universe’s own words in my pocket most of the time, which is awesome! Sometimes i dont get most of it, but it is seriously the best book ever 🙂 I feel so selfish after watching that video though, because i make stupid mistakes and all i think about is myself, when there is SO much more bigger than that!
Hebrews 11:3 says that we should believe (have faith) that the world was created by God’s words and not by things we can see. My faith in God has grown tremendously lately, and without faith, my relationship with God would be going no where. Faith is like having trust, and you can’t build a relationship without trusting first!
This verse is amazing! It’s so crazy to think that while we’re in school we can have teachers telling us that the Universe was created by the Big Bang theroy and that we came from monkeys and have developed into what we are today because there is no “proof” that God created the world. Well there is in fact proof, it’s called God’s word and faith! “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” This verse is pretty simple saying that by faith, we understand that the Universe was created by the word of God, and that things that are seen were not made of things they way they appear to be. God created the world in 7 days. For some of us in 7 days we can barely make it through the week let alone create the world! It’s crazy to think that everything here that we have was created just by the words that came out of God’s mouth. As Lindsey had mentioned, in verse 3 of Genesis it says, “And God said, Let there be light and there was light.” Just by his words God created light and divided it from darkness and in the very next verse it says that! In verse 9 it says, “And God said, Let the waters under heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.” God created land and the seas just by the words that slipped off His tongue and came out of His mouth! That is so incredible to me, and after hearing this story a million and one times, it never gets old and never ceases to amaze me that God can do anything! By having this faith, knowing that God created the universe, it should give us the sense of peace that we’re worshipping and serving a God, that with us having faith, we can do impecable things! 🙂
Faith is a important thing, and I think, and hope, we’ve all learned that during this devotional so far! I know my faith has grown in God over the past couple of months and it’s really made a huge difference in my relationship with God! Hopefully all of you have realized the same! 🙂
I never would think of god as the sun even when he said ” Let their be light.” 😐
So my mind is like incredibly blown away!God is so big and yet he loves little old me! The God that framed the world, that made all these huge stars literally died for me! That’s amazing!
What i got out of this message is that even though no one saw the miracle in action but it was true that he made the earth and that he made the sun so we could live, he also made all the stars in the universe and the planets. then he made each and everyone of us individuely. this reminds me of how much he loves and cares for us.
It’s crazy that the creator of the universe an everything in it wants to have a relationship with me. That’s amazing!
The fact is that God’s greatness and creativity will always be a mystery to me. He is so great that words can not fathom His greatness. I love looking at what we call simple things like how the sky looks when the sun peeks over the earth and how flowers open and close with each day. When I stop and think of the complexity of the simple things I have to stop and thank God for the wonderful things He has done in my life.
I remember watching this in youth group too!
It’s so amazing to think about! Like Zac said, it’s so crazy that the God who made everything loves me! 🙂
