James- Day 34

Thursday, October 13, 2011

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.  James 3:17

Today we see what the end results of God’s wisdom is.

James describes it with several descriptive words.

God’s wisdom is:

  1. Pure- That is God’s wisdom in our lives leads us to be free from any self-glory or self-seeking “me first” kind of an attitude.  It seeks to put God first and others ahead of ourselves.

  2. Peaceable- This wisdom fosters peace.  People get along because everyone is putting God first and others ahead of themselves.  Confusion is kept to a minimum.  Strife and arguing diminish.

  3. Gentle- considerate.  Keeping others feelings and needs in mind.  Understanding how my actions affect others.

  4.  Willing to yield- I’ll give on my position to see and act on behalf of others.

  5. Full of mercy and good fruits- I give people a pass even though they may deserve much worse.

  6. Without partiality- no politics.  We treat others with love without discrimination.

  7. Without hypocrisy- I don’t just talk about this and hold others to it.  I live it myself.

Application:

If everyone in your (church, family, school, organization) acted the way you act would you say it would look more like man’s wisdom (described yesterday) or God’s wisdom (described today)?

Okay what i learned from this passage is that we need to think what would Jesus do? We want to be like god no one can be perfect but you can at least try not to lie because that would mak a difference or not get in trouble or anything that displeases God. You can do these to please him but sometimes mess up and ask of forgivness.

Wow!! Pastor Ben! U gave me a chart again! Wohhoo! 🙂 ok on to today’s messages…… Today’s passsage was about wisdom and forgiveness. We need to ask for forgiveness when we mess up. We need to pray about it and he will give it to u if u were sincere. Thts an important concept. Thts what I learned today! 🙂 it was a little hard to understand the questions today but I think I’m ok. 🙂 c u guys tmrw!!!!!! Love u!! 🙂

This passage is saying that you need to try not to displeases god like when your about to do something wrong like Andrew said think about what would Jesus do, but if anyone acted like me in school it would be gods wisdom.

Gods wisdom sounds and is much more beneficial in our lives. What the world can give us makes us empty in the end. What God can give us makes us full and living with the mind that we are to serve others and live for more than ourselves.
One of the 10 lukewarm test questions that I have a hard time with is living with earth in mind or with heaven in mind. It’s not that I dont think about what I am doing and try to make a difference for eternity it’s just that I enjoy my life and want to make the biggest difference I can inthe lives of my family and those I enteract with. In order to live this way I have to h e Gods wisdom in my life. My “wisdom” doesn’t go very far but Gods does.

What I got out of this is God’s wisdom should look like putting others first and God. No envy no i’m better then that kid or stuff like that.

  6. for me if everyone did what i did it would probably vary between God’s wisdom and man’s wisdom.Im usually the quiet and good kid at school and i usually make the right choices.while at home im not always like i am at school.the point im trying 2 get 2 is is that it would be better if peple follow the wisdom i hv at school then at home.

I’m not really sure what kind of wisdom everyone would have it depended on me… Thats probably bad. Sometimes my wisdom is based on God more at times than at others.I’ve been trying, lately, to conform myself to be like Christ and use His wisdom, but it’s pretty hard. Just recently, I really got into His word and i’m trying to make a difference and grow in Him. It’s kind of discouraging, though, because I feel like every time i try to get closer to God..EVERYTHING that could go wrong, does! >.< But I'm trying, so i guess that's all that counts. No ones perfect. I'm getting there.

I think I already said this, but go see "courageous" at the movie theater! Especially men, because it was more aimed to men and how they can raise a godly household. There's also a salvation scene. 🙂 The directors did a great job. And i feel like usually christian movies are low on funds so they have to make the movie cheaply, but this one was amazingly put together.

  8. Hello h2o! 🙂 im gonna start me devos a little differently today, cause i have a prayer request. My stress right now is thru the roof, so can you guys just keep me in your prayers? Ive just been feeling lousy lately & feeling overwhelmed with a lot. Thanks guys!!

So todays devos are really cool! God’s wisdom is pretty fabulous. If we all strived for the wisdom God has, WOW can you imagine the differences in our world? He is gentle, peaceful, pure, without hypocrasy.. Thats so cool to me. & as we learned in james 1, we can pray for wisdom & He’ll give it to us! I pray every day for patience & wisdom. But even when i do, i still make mistakes & im not very wise :p like Grace said, we’re not perfect, but we’re trying! By being aware of our actions, we’re all making a change in the way we live to a godlier way of living 🙂

I agree with Lindsey, that God’s wisdom is pretty sweet! I’m so thankful that I serve a God that would be willing to share that with me, if I ask for it. I think lately I’ve been asking for wisdom a lot more than I was before, and it really has been helping me! But I think that is everyone else lived and acted the way I do, it would still lean more towards mans wisdom. For me, this goes along with what Pastor Ben was saying last night about being a lukewarm Christian. Sometimes I don’t want to admit to God that I need help, and I try to do things on my own. It’s something that I don’t always trust God with, and that makes me a lukewarm Christian. This is something I’ve been struggling with, and I definitely need to work on it!

  10. Wow, if everyone lived by these principles everyday, it would seem too good to be true. If I’m being completely honest, if others were to look at all of those principles and evaluate my actions, my wisdom wouldn’t be matching up with Gods. I tend to think I’m right a lot, and I hurt my sibilings because of it because I’m always saying “I’m older so I know… Blah blah blah” but do I really? I mean yeah I’ve been through hard experiences that has given me wisdom in areas, but so has everyone honestly. Am I going to depend on the wisdom I have to get me through life, or am I going to depend on God’s wisdom? The wisdom that will actually get me through life, the life He made for me, and I can do the things He’s set out for me to do, not by my wisdom, but with His! We need God right beside us in everything we do. I know He’s not always beside me in every single thing, and that’s something I need to fix in my life. I don’t want to do the opposite of what the principles ahead say. I want to live by God’s principles, and use His wisdom to pull me through!

  11. So excited to be read all of your comments. These devotions are really impacting are lives in such a positive way! Go being able to read God’s word, and read it together everyday! Internet rocks!!!! Super stoked for tomorrow night! I’m gonna leave dust in all your faces on the race track! 😉 see you guys tomorrow night! Have a great Friday at school!

So this is kinda like pratical atheist, it’s not enough to just say I’m a Christian I should have the desire and want to serve God with my life because of what He has done inside me.
