Gifted

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31, 32)

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm 119:11)

Have you ever received a gift? I mean a jaw dropping, “I-can’t-believe-they-gave-that-to-me” kind of gift?

Last Christmas my wife got me that kind of gift. She recorded my response as I opened the iPad she got me for Christmas. It was pretty cool, and the video was hilarious. I was blown away by her generosity.

A Gift From God
Did you know that God has given you the most precious gift you can ever have? Many people today don’t have access to this gift. People have given their lives for it, and in America we have a tendency to take it for granted.

I’m talking about the Bible. God has revealed Himself to us through the pages of scripture. The Bible has the power to be life changing. But it won’t change your life if you don’t…

  1. Read it.
  2. Study it.
  3. Memorize it-strategically to help you grow and fight temptation.
  4. Apply it.
    Application
How precious is the Bible to you? Are you seeking to do what it says? Are you reading it? When was the last time you memorized it?

  1. the bible is so very precious to me!! im so glad his word is right there at my finger tips!! i try 2 do what it says everyday.since i read the bible everyday i try 2 memorize it.when i was in those other classes like the juniors,i would memorize lots of scripture.i even memorized the books of the bible in order!! it kinda bothers me that alot of people in our group don’t actually bring a bible.they bring their iPods.theres nothing wrong w/ that its just the bible never goes dead and u don’t hv 2 re-charge it.say ur iPod gets demolished and now u don’t hv a bible.what r u gonna do now.im sorry if i defended anyone! i was just typing what i think today’s devo means!! missu guys!! 🙂 loveu all!!! 🙂 <333 seeu guys tmrw!!! 🙂

    1. thats an amazing point allie! Our ipods shouldnt be our only access to God’s word! I like having my bible in my hands where i can flip pages better than scrolling. But its cool cause the ipod allows us to have the bible always 🙂

I agree with you guys! Although I do use my iPod for the bible at church, it’s kinda because my bible is really old and falling apart. But I’m planning on getting a new one soon! Good comment though Allie! 🙂

I love my bible it means the world to me. When I read it I don’t quite understand it so my mom has to help me and then I get it. I am seeking to do what it says because I know if I follow it I will have a better life and that god and my whole family will be happy for me and that if I follow the bible as my guide not only will I be happy I’m gonna go
down the path of righuosness. The last time I remember something was when I was 10 it was John 3:16 that was the first verse I remembered and I still do because it’s like programmed in my brain ad I can never forget it, but stuff that are not programmed in my brain I forget all the time hehe.

I don’t think some people realize how amazing the bible really is. I used to only use my bible when I went to church, then it would sit in my bedroom until church the next week. But it’s totally different now, I use my bible all the time! And I LOVE it! Sometimes what used to be “so confusing” ends up being really easy to understand. I like what Tristian said about God being perfect! God is perfect, and He gave us His word, full of stories and stuff to bring us closer to Him. Who wouldn’t want to read it!?
I really like Romans 12:2! Paul is telling us in this verse that we, as Christians, shouldn’t be a part of this world but we should be transforming it so we can show everyone what’s good, acceptable, perfect, and the will of God. If Christians, being followers of God are acting the same as everyone else, that is not a very good testimony! But these four things that Ben mentioned above is exactly what we’re supposed to do with the bible! We should: Read it, Study it, Memorize it, & Apply it! My application for today is when I read the bible and do my devotions, to try and follow these four steps! I think if I start doing this, I’ll get a lot more out of God’s Word! 🙂

  5. I love the bible because i feel like God is always with me! Everytime i read it i learn something new, or im reminded of something. I read it everyday, but sometimes i dont understand it at all. Sometimes thats really frustratng 😦 Like this past week in James i was a little confused and i was like why am i not understanding this? We have so many ways to access God’s word and to study it so we do understand what we’re reading! I think i take it for granted tho..some countries aren’t allowed to own any kinda of bible, and if your seen with one or reading one, you can be put in jail, or worse, put to death.. isnt that so scary?!! But its because their faith in God is bigger than their own lives. If someone came to me saying “If you don’t get rid of that bible, i’m going to throw you in jail”, i dont think i’d give up my bible. The bible, God’s word, is what gets me through everyday. The way i live is the way the bible tells me to live. Idk if that makes sense. But God’s gift of the bible is the biggest and most amazing gift we have recieved, and i think i need to be more appreciative and loving for it 🙂

  8. “The B-I-B-L-E yes that’s the book for me, I stand alone on the word of God the B-I-B-L-E. BIBLE!”
The bible is honestly so amazing to me! I read it everyday several times a day and I love it very much! The bible is complete access to God’s word! We have the ability to have God’s word in our hands. God chose what He wanted to be in the bible and I think it’s the coolest thing ever that we have the chance to read it, and live by it! The bible is like the guidebook to life! That’s why it’s so important for us to apply what we read to our lives! & that’s exactly why it’s important for us to memorize it, because it’s impotant to know His word and to act on it! You’re comments today have been so good! It’s so important for us to read the bible, but not only read it but to study it! Studying the bible is very helpful and it’s amazing! You get so much more out of the word rather then just reading it! It’s so important to read God’s word, but also to apply it! Let’s not waste this amazing gift from God! Let’s break the binds of our bibles and actually use them 🙂

The bible is definitely a love letter it is so cool that everytine I open it up I learn so much! (especially from the devotion and the comments!) Like Sunday night Corey talked about how reading and memorizing scripture is one of the best ways to fight off temptation and it’s just amazing! so many times I can take it for granted and not really step back and realize how awesome it really is.
