Voices: We’re Not Alone

November 22, 2011:  Day 2

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints

Ephesians 6:12-18

Have you ever met someone who believed in UFO’s or Aliens?  Our culture is crazy about considering the idea that we are not alone in the universe.  It’s amazing how many movies, books, and other media has these themes.

When I was a kid I loved movies like E.T…

and Star Wars…

Both of these movies had the idea that we aren’t the only ones in the universe.  Now, no matter what you believe about aliens, you know the thought has always seemed to interest mankind.  Are we alone in the universe?  Is there anybody out there?  Take me to your leader!  🙂

Today, we’re continuing our Voices series with this incredible passage in Ephesians.  Paul (the author of the letter) explains that we really aren’t alone in the universe.  What do we learn from this passage:

  • There are spiritual beings in existence that are neither man nor God. (v.12)
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
  • These spiritual beings have order and a heirerarchy. (v. 12)
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
  • These spiritual beings are evil and therefore our enemies. (v.12b)
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
  • Spiritual wickedness must be fought with spiritual wholeness. (v.13-18)
We must be prepared to fight these spiritual battles. We can’t give in to the voices of spiritual wickedness or those who those voices influence.

Application:
For today’s application I want you to pick out one (or more if you are interested) of the pieces of spiritual armor that is in verse 13-18. Talk about the armour and how it can help you in your life today!

And take the helmet of salvation. I think that salvation is a gift, we can accept or not. And to have the choice is awesome. I thank god every day for my salvation.

  2. i’d hv 2 say sheild of faith.we all deff need faith.you know the saying,”without faith it is impossible to please God” we need faith 2 please him.we also need faith in God.otherwise we basically wouldn’t know him.sorry i wasn’t on yesterday guys.from the way it looks, these next devos look pretty awesome.been pretty busy.also can u guys please pray for me.im kinda stressed out with some stuff w/ one of my teachers.thanks.seeu guys soon!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 luv u guys!!!!!!!!! <3333 🙂

  3. These verses are so cool! I can picture this armour and how I can apply it in all the aspects of my life.
“16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” I think having this “shield” would be really useful to me in life! I’ve never been a worrier, I’ve always gone with the flow, but as I’ve gotten older, and particularly this year, I’ve let stress take me over. Stress is an enemy to me, because it really tends to bring me down. I need to stop letting it take over, and take on my shield of faith knowing that God has my back and that I can do all things through Him who gives me strength. Stress will be my fiery dart, and I won’t let it affect me this much any longer. O’m putting my foot down.. More like my shield up! 🙂 there are a lot of fiery darts that come at us in life, and we all need to remember our faith in God. We need to put on the shield and use the faith we have in God. If we say we have it, let’s show it! Faith will protect us! I don’t always use my faith as much as I claim it, and that’s a problem to me. That’s just like saying in this example, I have a shield that will protect me from these fiery darts, but I’m not gonna use it! How silly is that? I’m sure God thinks the same thing about me not always depending on Him. I know I can trust God with everything! God says you’re going to die tomorrow, I’d be a little weary, but I’d trust Him knowing that everything would be ok, and that I’d see Him tomorrow! I chose this illustration, but they are all so important! I could go on about them all!
Great work today Ben and Allie! Good to see you guys on here 🙂 keep it up!

For me I think the shield of faith is a very important one because our relationship with God is so important in dealing with spiritual wickedness and knowing him and trusting him will definitely help is with this fight.

the shield of faith seems so most important because to do ANYthing…. you need faith! Just to believe God exists you need faith. To do what He wants you need faith. Faith just seems like a really important thing. I place my faith in God and i’m putting up that shield. I have faith that God will use it to protect me. 🙂
sorry i wasn’t on yesterday guys. i totally forgot :0
