Today’s Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Today’s Key Thought: Wisdom acknowledges what is appropriate at different times
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to ever purpose under heaven”. These are the words of Solomon in today’s text. Ultimately we know that God is in control of our lives and of our time. We must acknowledge what God is doing in our lives. If you are at a moment of time where you do not particularly like your circumstances, know that they aren’t permanent. If you can do something to change those circumstances in a way that honors God then do something about them! Use your time wisely. If you can’t do anything about them, know this- it is God’s purpose that must win out in our lives, not our own. Notice what the verse says, “and a time to ever purpose under heaven”.
Application:
You and I cannot control everything, but we can control how we behave and respond to the things that happen to us and around us. This is why it is so important for us to be wise with the time that we have by prioritizing the things of God in our lives!
I love these verses. Every verse starts with,”There is a time…” We’ve been looking a lot at time, and today we see that there is a time for everything. The verse above is saying that there is a time for everything in heaven. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m really excited about going to heaven and being able to be united with God. It’s going to be such an amazing thing, but in order to get the eternal, it’s important that we’re investing the time we have now wisely. It’s easy not to have God on the brain 24/7. I wish I could have God on my brain every second and hour of everyday, but I don’t. It’s a constant struggle, but making sure that we know what God wants us to do with our time for Him, is what’s important.
Melanie, you took the words right out of my mouth!! I am excited about getting to Heaven and that there is a time for everything. Loved the devo today!! 🙂 🙂 well, I guess I’ll see u guys tonite!!!! 🙂
There is a time for everything we need go up to heave just like Melanie said, I can’t wait to go up there to and be united with god as well, because up there we have all the time in the would there will be no sadness, meanness, or anything that could hurt someone’s feelings it will be happy and we will finally have peace and all the time in the world. We need to use our time wisley put sometime in for god doesn’t matter if it’s 5min, an hour, or your whole day, just find time for god. As melanie said, it’s really important that you know what god wants you to do with your time and I know.
This is a very timely devotional for me today. Honestly speaking, I don’t particularly like my circumstances right now. It’s not much fun. But that being said, my circumstances today aren’t permanent. This is about what God wants me to do right now not necessarily what I want. Taking care of my mother in law is very time consuming and is a big responsibility. I have had to put other things on hold to do this to God’s glory. As you all have noticed, I haven’t been in Sunday school or youth group in several weeks. I have also put aside choir for now and piano lessons for the girls. I have had to alter things in my life so I can have the time, and more importantly the patience for taking care of my mom. We need to listen to what God wants for us and do it. Sometimes we are going to love what we are told to do, and other times it is going to be hard. Either way, God knows what’s best for us. I love my mother in law and it is sad to see her going through such a horrible disease. I want her to feel safe and comfortable until we can make other arrangements. This is the “season of my life” but I wouldn’t change it for the world because I know it is what I am supposed to be doing.
I’m sorry tht u haven’t been on.. 😦 my wifi and Internet has been down.. So I’m gonna try to get on afterschool! 😉 & 6 pm tonite and 7:30 am tmrw Pastor Ben? 😉
You got the time right, hopefully we’ll see you there 🙂
I think this passage can also relate to not only what we learned Sunday about managing our time but also what we have learned on Wednesdays with the “not that into you” series. If we aren’t that into God we are not going to recognize what time we have and even more importantly how we ought to spend our time. Like Job there is also a time to ask God why sometimes when we don’t completely understand but there is also a time when we have to just Trust God and do as He says to do. It’s not our jobs to figure out the why’s of this life but rather to strive to accomplish what He has in our lives. Sometimes we need to quit our pitty parties (I’ve had lots of them in my days) and just go with God. “His ways are higher than our ways”.
It’s very true that we can’t control our circumstances but we can control how we react to them. A few years ago I was going through a really hard time with my family and I definitely did not react to it how I should have. I threw myself a big pity party. I totally hated my mom and asked God questions just like Job did when his life was falling apart. Like “Why is this happening to ME? How could you do this God? Why couldn’t you leave things how they were?” And so many more… anyways, i’m going off on a tangent 🙂 Instead of trusting in God and trying to make the best of the situation I did everything I could to completely ignore God and I should have been asking Him to help me through it. For one, things probably would have gone a lot better if I would have asked for His wisdom. That was in the past, though, and you cant make up for lost time. So, I really want to make sure I’m planning my time wisely, because it is a gift and God can take it away at any moment.”A time to be born and a time to die” I want my life filled with things I did for the Lord. Not just good things, but the BEST things.
That was kind of besides the point haha sorry 🙂 So I really like these verses because it just reminds us that we are always making decisions, but there is a time for everything and we need to be asking God to help us make thee BEST(wise) decisions. Everything in life is a choice and we need to be making the right ones.
*Choose it for the team. Gods team 🙂
There is a time for everything at one time Jesus will come back there is a time for getting into God’s word and there will be times where we won’t be happy but God’s incontrol of every thing and we can remember always when we are going threw hard times.
These verses are a big encouragement to me! Whether it’s good or bad, I don’t always know why things happen. But God has everything planned out, so even if sometimes I don’t know why I’m going through some hard things, I know God has a plan for me and I just have to trust Him! And a big thing to trust Him with is my time. We’ve been talking a lot about time lately, and I think it’s a good thing and it’s really been helping me to know what I should be doing with my time! I don’t want to go through life wasting my time, I want to be doing what God wants me to do with my time , and this is definitely something I’m going to work on!
