Accountable to God: Day 18

February 1, 2012
Today’s Text:  Read Colossians 3:23, 1 Samuel 12:24
Today’s Key Thought:  If we consider that God has made us and redeemed us we should want to serve Him in return.

I’m in the beginning of my journey as a parent.  I have loved being a dad even more than I thought I would.  One of the things we have to teach Melana is how to respond correctly to things that happen in her life.  Two of the big ones are to say “Thank You” and “I’m sorry.”  She is really learning them quickly, although at times she doesn’t always respond correctly.  Sometimes she says “I’m sorry” when she falls down and hurts herself.  Sometimes she forgets to say thank you when we give her something.  As a loving parent we try to gently remind her, and sometimes passionately remind her to respond correctly.
Our heavenly Father is no different.  There is a right response to Him and a wrong response to Him.  We’ve learned this week that we are twice owned by God as our Creator and our Redeemer.  One of the right responses to Him is to serve Him.  This means we must be obedient to His commands, and it also means we must serve Him with all that we have.  As our passage says today, everything we do should be done “as unto the Lord”.  Why?  Because everything we can do is made possible by Him!

Application:
As you live today, are you living to serve God?  Are you on His mission and doing His purposes with your time?  Are you serving your God, yourself or something else?

Yes, Im living to sever god and I’m loving every single minute of it, it’s awesome! :). well sometimes I use my purpose for not what god wants me to do with it or my time, but most of the time I think that I use my time wisely for what he wants for me hehe does that make sense?? Hehe. I think this is saying an I serving god myself or am I serving something else? I am serving god and I wouldnt dare serve someone else or a fake god because god is my heart, my soul, and my everything haha! 🙂

If I was being completley honest, which I believe we all should be with each other, I’d have to say where their are times where I struggle with being obedient to God, which in result fails me to serve God in the way I should. There has been times before where I’ve served God, but treated it as more of part of my routine then something that I should want to do. This is such a bad place to be! I shouldn’t ever be treating serving God as a routine, I should be doing it because I have such a passion for God, and because He has done so much to thank Him for and give back! I want nothing more then do fufill the purposes God has for me. Sometimes I’m not the best steward, especially with my time, and it’s been something I’m really working on. God is ultimatley number one to me, and I need to be treating Him like He’s number one, not just today, not just tonight, but everyday.

Great devotion today! I love it when God speaks to you through His word.

I think the most important thing we can do is serve God. Most importantly, what is our attitude when serving God? He is more interested in our hearts being right in service, than just doing, doing, doing. If we think we are doing it in an effort to impress man with our good works than it probably won’t mean mush to God. It is easier to serve self so we need to be careful.

This is something that i struggle with, serving God with the right attitude. In 1 samuel it says serve God with all of your heart. When we do things to impress other people or just to get them over with, it doesnt mean that much to God.
